Uhuru Kenyatta to oversee destruction of Sh1 billion heroin

Drug barons operating in Kenya will be tracked down and prosecuted, President Uhuru Kenya has said.

In a post on his Facebook page, President Kenyatta said: “We will not allow drug barons to destroy the future of our young people. We will track and deal with them decisively.”
The President is expected to lead security agencies in destroying heroin valued at Sh1 billion in Mombasa Friday.

The President said the ship that ferried the heroin will also be destroyed.

He said the government does not care who owned the ship or the drugs and that the move will serve as a warning to drug barons.

“The Port of Mombasa will no longer be a passage for the importation of illicit drugs,” President Kenyatta said.

The 377kg of heroin was impounded at the Port of Mombasa in July and 12 people arrested.

A Mombasa court allowed the prosecution to destroy the heroin.

The accused are a Mombasa politician, Mr Maur Bwanamaka (below), two businessmen and nine Pakistanis.

It is alleged that the accused were trafficking the drugs through cargo ship mv Amin Darya also known as Al Noor.
