President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto yesterday paid former President Mwai Kibaki a visit at his office in Nyari, Nairobi, where they met for more than an hour.

State House later said the impromptu visit was to “find out how he is doing and to listen to ideas and ways the former President can contribute to national development.”

“As you may be aware, former President Kibaki has plans to establish a foundation and President Kenyatta and Deputy President Ruto wanted to understand the plans in detail,” State House spokesperson Manoah Esipisu told the Sunday Nation.

The visit came after President Kenyatta cancelled his scheduled travel to Mwakishimba, Taita Taveta County, today.

President Kenyatta had been scheduled to attend the memorial service of George Samboja, the father of veteran radio broadcaster Granton Samboja, and meet county residents.

“Due to other pressing duties, the President is no longer able to make the trip,” said Mr Esipisu.
