Uhuru directs Lands ministry to issue titles to all schools

President Uhuru Kenyatta has directed the Ministry of Lands and the Nairobi County government to issue title deeds to all schools in the name of school committees and boards of governors.

He asked leaders, including members of county assemblies (MCAs), to report to the authorities land stolen in their areas.

“If you are an MCA and you know there is public land that has been grabbed, inform us so that appropriate action can be taken to ensure justice has been done,” he said.

President Kenyatta spoke on Thursday when he launched the construction of the Nairobi Eastern Missing Link roads at Nairobi’s Muratina Road/Gen Waruinge Junction.

Emphasising the government’s determination to take development projects to all parts of the country, the President expressed satisfaction that the road project has commenced in the Eastlands, where the majority of Nairobi residents live.

“We want to ensure that Kenyans wherever they are in the country receive services and are proud of their government,” the President said.

He commended Nairobi leaders for working with the national government in promoting development irrespective of party affiliation.

President Kenyatta said the construction of roads in the Eastlands area will accelerate development and enable businesses to thrive.

The President asked contractors building the roads to employ the youth from the area.

He also asked young people to help in safeguarding security, saying no development will be achieved without peace and stability.

“This is one way of building investor confidence and creating employment for the youth in the country,” President Kenyatta said.

On the fight against terrorism, the President appealed to all Kenyans to join hands in combating the global crime and guard against being divided on religious grounds.

“Terrorists are criminals and know no religious boundary. Let us unite in fighting them,” President Kenyatta said.

He thanked the European Union — the main financiers of the road construction project — for supporting the government’s development agenda.

Speaking at the function, Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero said the road project will benefit a section of Nairobi that was previously neglected and where close to 84 per cent of the county’s population live.

He said the project will open up the Eastlands area for business and improve the lives of residents.

Other speakers included EU Ambassador Lodewijk Briet, Infrastructure Cabinet Secretary Michael Kamau and political leaders from the area.
