Uhuru dismisses critics, urges Kenyans to develop country

President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged Kenyans not to be distracted by unwarranted government criticisms, but instead focus on developing the country.

Speaking at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in Ridgeways, Nairobi, on Sunday, the Head of State said that the country was moving forward as opposed to retrogressing, as claimed by the Opposition.

“There are many people out there who are making noise but we want to tell them Kenya is moving forward,” he said.

Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord), led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, has on several occasions accused the Jubilee administration of lacking the goodwill to combat graft and that it was “over-borrowing, over-spending and over-stealing.”

The Cord leader also presented statistics he said showed a struggling economy.

However, National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale has downplayed Mr Odinga’s statements by saying they had been concocted by the Opposition in a desperate bid to paint the government in bad light.

At the church, the President graced a fundraiser for the construction of a priest’s house where he contributed Sh2 million and pledged another Sh3 million. The house is estimated to cost Sh80 million.

He was accompanied by his mother, Mama Ngina Kenyatta, a member of the church, who contributed Sh200,000.
