EACC arrests UoN officer for taking Sh90,000 bribe from student

EACC detectives on Tuesday arrested a University of Nairobi (UoN) employee in a sting operation after a student reported him for soliciting a bribe.

The employee who works at the UoN legal office in the Administration and Finance department solicited Sh130,000 from Ms Pamela Gitobu, a student leader, to facilitate her swearing in as the Finance Secretary.

Ms Gitobu had participated in the recent Student Organisation of Nairobi University (SONU) elections that ended in violent confrontation between opposing camps and led expulsion of 201 learners from the campus.

“We carried out a trap operation and arrested Mr Mathews Omondi Nyandiga after he received our treated money amounting to Sh90,000 from the complainant,” said EACC press statement.

Mr Nyandiga has been booked at the EACC Police Station and will be released on a cash bail of Sh150,000 and will be taken to court for plea taking on Friday.
