UoN lands top position in Kenya, sixth in Africa

  • Kenyatta University was second in Kenya, position 30 in Africa and 1,915 in the world followed by Moi University (54 in Africa, 2,492 in the world).

The University of Nairobi (UoN) has been rated as the best in Kenya and sixth in Africa.

This is according to Webometrics, 4ICU, Times Higher Education (THE) and the Journals Consortium.

In the Webometrics ranking of January 2016, in which over 24,000 world institutions were ranked, the UoN emerged in position 697 in the world and sixth in Africa.

Kenyatta University was second in Kenya, position 30 in Africa and 1,915 in the world, followed by Moi University (54 in Africa, 2,492 in the world).

According to another 2016 global ranking by 4International Colleges and Universities, (4ICU), the University of Nairobi was ranked top, followed by Egerton University, Moi University, Kenyatta University, and Strathmore.

The UoN was rocked by tussles pitting Vice-Chancellor Peter Mbithi against his deputy Prof Bernard Njoroge, a feud that led to the latter being suspended for six months.
