Video captures attackers’ brutality

An exclusive video of the Westgate Shopping Mall attack last month shows the brutality of the terrorists who killed at least 67 people and injured several others.

In the graphic and frightening video, obtained by the Nation yesterday, terrorists are seen spraying bullets all over the mall and killing without mercy.

The clip captures an ordinary Saturday at the mall just before the attack. Shoppers are going about their errands.

The attention of shoppers and workers at the place appears to be drawn outside the mall. Within seconds, things get out of hand.

Men, women, children and the workers scamper for safety after the terrorists started opening fire from outside.

People are seen crawling on the floor and running to avoid being met by a bullet. Others step on each other as they flee.

One man remains behind and hides near an elephant dummy. Then two terrorists make their way inside. One takes the left side while the other moves to the right side of the entrance.

The man hiding near the elephant dummy is unlucky. One of the terrorists spots him.

The terrorist, holding a firearm, goes near the man. Without uttering a word, he shoots the man at close range before getting inside the mall without feeling remorseful.

The man, now in a pool of blood, tries to crawl in a bid to seek help. Unfortunately, he takes his last breath when the terrorist shoots him again.

At 12.31pm, two other terrorists make their way to the upper parking bay. Children were holding a cooking competition there.

Although not captured on the CCTV footage, it later emerged that several people, including children, died there.

The CCTV footage does not capture any other terrorists apart from the four, although the government had said there were more than 10 terrorists inside.

The terrorists with turbans wrapped on their heads walk into the supermarkets where hundreds of civilians are scampering for safety. Those who do not make it meet the brutal terrorists, who are shooting even the dead.

At the mall’s main entrance lobby, the two terrorists had taken charge.

Several civilians are seen hiding behind pillars. One of them starts to crawl and gets exposed.

He is then shot in the head and dies. Other civilians freeze, they are only seen peeping outside their hiding places trying to get an opportunity to run away. The terrorists continue to fire indiscriminately.
