Self-confessed serial killer Geoffrey Matheri, alias Fongo, was admitted to a hospital in Naivasha after he was attacked by a group of people on Sunday.

Mr Matheri was attacked in Rwanyambo Village in Kinangop. His uncle Peter Matheri confirmed the incident.

Mr Matheri was freed on Friday by the High Court in Nakuru.

Justice Maureen Odero, in her ruling, cited lack of strong evidence to convict the accused.

He had been charged with killing Miriam Wairimu sometime between January 1 and August 14, 2008 at his Kihoto house in Naivasha.

Before his arrest in 2008, Mr Matheri confessed to detectives that he had abducted and raped women and sucked their blood.

According to court files, Mr Matheri allegedly stabbed Ms Wairimu multiple times before sucking her blood and eventually killing her.

Witnesses who testified in court portrayed him as a hardcore serial killer who had kidnapped even schoolgirls and murdered them before sucking their blood.
