War on graft, stepped up, says Kinyua

Foreign diplomats were assured Wednesday that the government is determined to fight corruption.

Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua said the Uhuru Kenyatta administration was committed to fighting corruption.

Envoys from mainly Western countries and Japan petitioned the government last week to fight the vice.

Mr Kinyua was speaking in the President’s Office during a meeting with 18 envoys Wednesday.

“The current administration is committed to fighting corruption and this can be attested by commitment to empower institutions that work to check this vice.

“The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has all the goodwill especially political from the Executive to do the work they were set up to do.”

A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade said the government had started a preventive approach and behaviour change.

Mr Kinyua said this would be achieved through the education campaign the anti-corruption commission was carrying out.
