A warrant of arrest has been issued against the chairman of the Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya.

Kibera Principal Magistrate Benard Ochoi ordered the arrest of Dr Paul Nganda Mwaniki when he failed to appear in court to answer a charge of harassing officials at the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.

The magistrate directed the police to arrest Mr Mwaniki before July 16, when the case will come up in court.

Dr Mwaniki was summoned to court on Thursday after a disagreement at the board’s offices in Nairobi where he allegedly insulted Registrar Kipkerich Koskei.

He sent a lawyer to inform the court he could not attend as he was unwell and requested two weeks to recuperate.

The magistrate, however, rejected the application, saying there was no evidence to prove he was sick.

“There is no medical report to show that the accused is incapacitated. I therefore issue a warrant and direct the police to arrest him and bring him to court on July 16, when the case will be mentioned,” said the magistrate.

A charge sheet had been drawn stating that Dr Mwaniki created disturbance at PPB offices by shouting and banging tables. He allegedly told the registrar that he (Dr Koskei) was just a mere junior officer and threatened to use his powers to have him fired.

Dr Mwaniki is also the managing director of Kileleshwa Medical Plaza.
