Drama festival winners feted

- The best director’s award in the colleges’ category went to Yussuf Dallu of the Technical University of Mombasa.
Winners of the just-ended Kenya National Drama Festival were on Friday feted at a colourful ceremony held at a Kisumu hotel.
Kakamega High School Principal Oliver Minishi was voted the best producer in the secondary schools’ category at the ceremony attended by State House Senior Deputy Director, Digital Media, Dennis Itumbi, Youth Enterprise Development Fund Chief Executive Officer Josiah Moriasi and the Kenya National Drama Festivals chairman Hannington Ochieng.
The winners in the various categories received trophies and cash awards.
FILM AWARD
This writer won the Excellence Award in the Media Category.
The Excellence Award winner in the Film category went to Dr Simon Peter Otieno, a renowned script writer and director for both film and theatre.
Dr Otieno pioneered the Film in Schools category.
The Excellence Award winner in the dances category was Charity Muraguri, a theatre enthusiast who has acted, written poems and choreographed award-winning dances at the Kenya School and Colleges Drama Festivals over the years.
Another upcoming producer, 35-year old Justin Ong’wen, was awarded the best trainer during the festival.
Mr Ong’wen was the man behind the Riara Springs award-winning productions.
REWARD FOR EXCELLENCE
The best director’s award in the colleges’ category went to Yussuf Dallu of the Technical University of Mombasa.
Other winners included Lillian Madigo of Lions Primary, who topped the charts in the Primary Schools Category.
In the Early Childhood Education category, the excellence award went to Lucy Ayoyi of Gachororo ECD while Elizabeth Ngure scooped the top award in the Special Needs Category.
In the French Category, the top award went to Obilo Ng’ong’o while Mr Fanuel Imbisi scooped the top prize in the participating institutions category.
Former Kenya National Drama Festival chairman, Dr Ezekiel Alembi, was also honoured posthumously.
