Homa Bay Woman Rep Gladys Wanga summoned by DCI

Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga has been summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations over offensive conduct.

The directive, which was served on the vocal opposition MP on Tuesday by Mr Setim Kandie of the DCI’s Serious Crimes Unit, requests that she appears on Thursday at 10am to help the police with investigations.

Police say the investigations touch on breach of peace.

The summon comes after Ms Wanga declined to appear before the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), until commission revealed the name of the complainant and the crime she is alleged to have committed.

Ms Wanga was accused of making claims touching on the public conduct of President Uhuru Kenyatta, a claim that she denied.

On October 10, over 50 National Super Alliance MPs led by Suba South MP John Mbadi and his Rarieda colleague Mr Otiende Amollo accused the commission, chaired by Mr Francis Ole Kaparo of applying the law selectively in their investigations of hate speech mongers.

“The Motive of NCIC is sinister, the process illegitimate, it is after persecuting our members and we will not allow this. They summoned Ms Wanga in less than 12 hours when she had already left the city for her constituency and later came out to say that she had defied the summons,” Mr Amollo, who is Ms Wanga’s lawyer, had said.

The Rarieda MP also accused the Directorate of Public Prosecutions Mr Keriako Tobiko and DCI boss Mr Ndegwa Muhoro of specifically targeting the MPs affiliated to Nasa “in their so called probes.”

They said the MPs have been receiving calls from State agencies in a bid to stifle their voices.

“We can’t be intimidated to speak for fear of being persecuted,” Mr Amollo vowed.
