Chaos erupted at the Huruma disaster scene yesterday when youth stoned police officers who were trying to control a crowd.

The crowd had formed on the roads and on top of buildings for a glimpse of Cord leaders who had visited the area and demanded to be addressed by co-principal Raila Odinga.

National Disaster Management Unit officers warned that the crowds on top of buildings and on balconies could result in another disaster and police intervened.

The crowds started throwing stones, empty cans and other objects at the police and youth from the National Youth Service. They also poured dirty water on them.

The officers fired teargas but when the youth proved difficult to control, GSU officers were deployed.

Mr Odinga was accompanied by co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetang’ula, party officials Elizabeth Ongoro, John Mbadi, Reuben Ndolo, among others.

The leaders donated 50 bags of maize flour, 400kg of sugar and blankets to residents.

The building collapsed on Friday and 24 people have died.

And yesterday morning, a seven-month-old baby was pulled out of the rubble, putting the number of those rescued to 136.
