The 19-year-old is alleged to have operated a Facebook page pretending to be renowned preacher ‘Prophet’ David Owuor of the Ministry of Repentance and Holiness.

He was arrested by police after he allegedly conned an Argentinian woman 7,000 euros (Sh780,000), which she gave as offerings.

Mr Gilbert Kimutai, a pastor with the ministry said the suspect had been masquerading as Dr Owuor and took offerings from unsuspecting members of the church.

Speaking to press in Kisumu, Mr Kimutai said the man was arrested after he attempted to solicit money from a woman in Argentina claiming the funds would go towards supporting the ministry.

“We have been following them for some time now and lucky enough, yesterday one suspect was arrested,” he said.

He said the man, alleged to have conned worshipers locally and abroad, will be charged before a Nakuru court.
