Migiro appointed member of UN high level advisory board on mediation

Dr Migiro, a former UN Deputy Secretary-General and Tanzania’s minister of Foreign Affairs joins a team of 17 high profile world leaders appointed by UN Secretary General AntónioGuterres to serve in the board.

Dar es Salaam. The Tanzanian High Commissioner to UK, Dr Asha-Rose Migiro, has been appointed a member of the UN high level advisory board on mediation.

Dr Migiro, a former UN Deputy Secretary-General and Tanzania’s minister of Foreign Affairs joins a team of 17 high profile world leaders appointed by UN Secretary General AntónioGuterres to serve in the board.

According to a UNmedia statement, the board will advise the Secretary General on mediation challenges and will back specific mediation efforts, where appropriate.

The board comprises 18 internationally recognised personalities with expertise on mediation and preventive diplomacy.

Other members are Michelle Bachelet from Chile, RadghikaCoomaraswamy(Sir lanka), LeymahGbowee, (Columbia), Jean-Marie Guéhenno (France) and TajraHalonem(Finland).

The list also includes  David Heyzer from(Singapore),Nasser Judeh, (Jordan), RamtaneLamamra, (Algeria), GraçaMachel, (Mozambique),David Harland, (Indonesia), Olusegun Obasanjo (Nigeria) and RozaOtunbeyeva from Kyrgyzstan.

Others are Michele Pierre- Louis from Haiti, Jose Ramos-Hirta (Timor- Leste), Gert Rosenthal (Guatemala) and Justin Welby from the United Kingdom.
