Thirteen people were Monday confirmed dead and eight others critically injured following a horror accident along the Kampala-Masaka road in central Uganda.

The Sunday night crash happened at Lubanda trading centre near River Katonga Bridge in Mpigi District

Eye witnesses told reporters that the crash happened when a Fuso truck rammed into a Tanzania-bound van, after one of its tyres burst.

Twelve of the deceased were relatives and Tanzanian nationals, who were coming from a wedding party of their kin at Kampala Parents' School.
DECEASED
The local Katonga Region Police spokesman, Mr Philip Mukasa, said all the deceased were travelling in the van.

A picture provided by one of the survivors showed the wedding ceremony the Tanzanian nationals had attended in Kampala.

Police used documents retrieved from the wreckage to identify some of the bodies.

The injured were taken to Nkozi Hospital and Double Cure Clinic but later referred to the Mulago National Referral Hospital, while bodies of the deceased were taken to Gombe Hospital for postmortem.
