Buhari sacks heads of 24 agencies

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has sacked the chief executive officers of 24 agencies since he rose to power 10 months ago.

Those sent packing were appointed by former President Goodluck Jonathan. The organisations affected include five federal government-owned media outfits.

The disengagement of the media chief executives was announced on Monday, by the Information and Culture minister, Mr Lai Mohammed.

The affected media houses are the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), the Voice of Nigeria (VON), the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) and the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC).

Mr Mohammed directed those sent home to hand over to the most senior officials in their various establishments.

He thanked them for their service to the nation and wished them the best of luck in their future endeavours.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Babachir Lawal, also announced sackings in 19 other agencies, including the National Orientation Agency, Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) and New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD).

Others are Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).
