DR Congo opposition rejects AU mediator

Democratic Republic of Congo opposition has rejected African Union’s mediator in the country’s political crisis.

Mr Vital Kamerhe’s Union of the Congolese Nation and the Movement for the Liberation of Congo of Mr Jean-Pierre Bemba are among the political parties that have come out very clearly on the issue.

Mr Edem Kodjo, a former Secretary General of the regional body was dispatched last weekend to Kinshasha to put together an inclusive national political dialogue between the government and the opposition.

DRC spokesman Lambart Mende welcomed the AU move. He told Africa news in a telephone conversation that the mediator, Edem Kodjo has no plan to respect article 220 which limits a president’s term to two.
