There is a heavy police and military presence in Uganda capital Kampala ahead of an anticipated motion on scrapping of presidential age limit.

The headquarters of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Uganda's main opposition party, is under siege by regular, riot and anti-terrorism police.

PARLIAMENT

They have deployed all-round the headquarters at Najjanankumbi along Kampala-Entebbe road.

Police Spokesperson Asan Kasingye on Monday said the police would deploy in the city to ward off any threats.

There is equally visible deployment at a number of strategic locations in the capital’s central business district, including Parliament.

NRM MPs

Traffic flow is also still normal, but a bit lighter than on a typical working day.

The deployment comes amid mobilisation by various political groups and civil societies challenging the planned amendment of the Constitution.

MPs allied to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) want to scrap the age limit, now capped at 75, to allow President Yoweri Museveni run in 2021 polls.

The motion is expected to be tabled today after a failed attempt last Thursday.
