Puntland claims win over Shabaab

The authority in Puntland, a semiautonomous region in Northeastern Somalia, claimed to have pursued Al-Shabaab fighters from Gala-gala hillside at the base of Golis Mountain range on Saturday.

General Said Mohamed Hersi alias Said Dhere, the commander of Puntland army, said that his force defeated the Al-Shabaab militants previously stationed at Gal-gala settlement.

“Puntland army waged a very active war against the terrorists, killing 57 of the fanatics,” said Gen. Hersi while at Diin-dhigle, about 30km south of Bossaso, the main port town and commercial capital of Puntland.

He asserted that his force captured an undeclared number of militants including Sheikh Ahmed Gurey whom he named as the deputy commander of Al-Shabaab militants in Puntland.
