Sudan’s border to reopen after10 months of closure

Sudan and South Sudan have announced that the common border which closed since the eruption of the war in the South since last December will be opened in the coming week.

The two Presidents of Sudan and South Sudan will attend the opening event during the expected visit of President Salva Kiir Myaridt to Khartoum next week.

The director of the Sudanese General Union of Transport Shams El Kamal Hamad Diab said that new border crossings will be opened to reactivate trade between Sudan and South Sudan.

He told the media in Khartoum that a joint committee between the two countries had been formed to implement the opening of new checkpoints.

‘‘Eight new border crossings will be opened including three checkpoints in South Darfur and five in West Kordofan and South Kordofan states,” Mr Diab explained.

“Six new border crossings will also be established in Blue Nile and White Nile,” he pointed out. “All the security, measures have been taken.’’
