Dr Kivilu said the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations will begin on November 10 and end on November 12.

Candidates will sit the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations from October 12.

He said there are 937,467 KCPE and 525,802 KCSE candidates.

'LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY'

“'We don't want them to miss this lifetime opportunity,” he said.

He spoke at the launch of this year's national examinations at Mitihani House in Nairobi on Friday.

Education Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi recently ruled out postponing the national examinations.

He, however, said the Ministry of Education was considering closing public schools due to the teachers’ strike.

On Monday, the Teachers Service Commission gave the 288,060 teachers until Friday to report to work or face the sack.

Teachers went on strike to push for the adoption of a 50-60 per cent salary increase awarded to them by the Employment and Labour Relations Court in June and upheld by the Court of Appeal in July.
