Forget your differences for sake of Kenyans, leaders urged

The government and opposition should address current problems facing the country in a sober manner, Church leaders have said.

They chastised the two parties urging them to tone down the rhetoric and work together.

“As church leaders we are very concerned about insecurity in the country. We are telling both the government and the opposition that we are offering ourselves to play a reconciliatory role.

“We are appealing to the government and the opposition to give us that opportunity so that we can dialogue with them,” Bishop Mark Kariuki told a Press conference on Wednesday.

The bishop, who is also the chairman Evangelical Alliance of Kenya, reiterated the need for political leaders to unite as they did during the attack on Westgate Mall in Nairobi last year.

“When Westgate was bombed we were told that there are times when we forget our differences for the sake if the nation. Why can't they do so now?’' he posed.

Bishop David Oginde of Christ Is The Answer Ministries (Citam) also urged Kenyans to remain calm as religious leaders engage the government on the issue.
