Kenyans living in various South African towns have over the years requested the government to reach out to them by taking consular services to their neighbourhoods.

Cape Town lies about 1,500 kilometres South of Pretoria, the location of the Kenyan mission.

Meanwhile, the Kenyan High Commissioner to Pretoria, Ms Jean Kamau, has urged Kenyans in South Africa to take advantage of investment opportunities in their motherland.

“I urge you to reflect on the available investment possibilities at your disposal in Kenya,” she said in her Madaraka Day message.

“The Government of Kenya has over the years recognised the importance of the contribution of the Kenya Diaspora to the Kenyan economy and to development in general. Therefore, join other Kenyans in investing in Kenya as a demonstration of our patriotism,” she added.

Ms Kamau is credited with initiating a ID issuance outreach programme targeting Kenyans living in different cities of the United States when she served as the chargé d'affaires at the mission in Washington DC.
