The Technical University of Kenya has appealed to the government to resume sponsorship of diploma students studying at the institution.

The Vice-Chancellor Francis Aduol, said the labour market has confidence in the university dating back to its days when it was Kenya Polytechnic.

“The University and its predecessor institutions, Kenya Polytechnic University College and Kenya Polytechnic had produced who-is-who in technology cadres across the public and private sectors.

TRAINING

"We have the necessary equipment and manpower for training students and those in industry who may wish to upgrade their skills,” he added.

Prof Aduol made the appeal during the institution’s 5th graduation ceremony on Thursday.

The University Chancellor Manu Chandaria thanked students for keeping off political activism which he noted may have resulted in undesirable outcomes during the August General Election and October repeat presidential poll.

“Graduands, as you step out of TU-K, remember this world is cruel. Engage in meaningful activities and community service,” said Dr Chandaria.

“You can do this through volunteering to put to good use the skills you have acquired while here. The experience you will earn from volunteer work may open for you doors you may have least expected.”

The Chairman of the Council Dr Halima Saado, asked the staff to be patient with the government as their unions begin negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement.

More than 1,400 students were conferred with degrees and 700 awarded Diplomas and certificates in various fields.
