We don’t want violence, teachers tell politicians

School heads attending their 42nd Annual Conference in Mombasa have called on politicians to ensure the August 8 elections are peaceful.

Speaking during the official opening ceremony of the Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KSSHA) on Monday, chairman Indimuli Kahi said chaos in elections usually affect learning activities.

"We call upon our politicians to make sure their campaigns are conducted without violence. They must ensure a peaceful election.

“We want to open our schools after August 8 and make sure our children continue learning without interruption," he said.

He called on the teaching fraternity to also contribute towards a peaceful General Election.

"To make sure that we have a peaceful election, discipline among ourselves is paramount," he said.

Mr Kahi said 8,194 principals are attending the conference.

"We also have delegates from Malawi, the African Confederation of Principals, Principals Forum of Uganda and Tanzania and various sponsors," he said.

He said that about 10,000 people are gathering at the Wild Waters Centre for the conference.

"We have been trying to get a bigger venue to accommodate us all but it's not easy in Mombasa so we have to keep up with this venue for now," he said.
