Teachers who missed their September salaries after participating in a strike will now be paid starting Monday, Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has said.

The over 245,000 teachers missed their September salaries after their employer released payment for only 42,973 teachers who did not participate in the strike.

“(I) had discussions with TSC Secretary Nancy Macharia, consulted with colleagues Attorney-General Githu Muigai and Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich.

“Teachers' September salaries to be paid from tomorrow,” said Dr Matiang'i on Sunday.

Those who were paid September salaries were principals, their deputies and heads of departments as they were in school during the duration of the strike that lasted for five weeks.

Dr Matiang’i also disclosed that he will hold a consultative meeting with Kenya National union of Teachers (Knut) and Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) Monday morning.
