State to intensify power project to reach all Kenyans

Kenyans living near transformers will be connected to power without paying any charges, Deputy President William Ruto has said.
Addressing grassroots leaders and Jubilee aspirants at Matuga Government School in Kwale County, Mr Ruto said the connections will enable the country achieve universal electricity supply in three years.
Mr Ruto said the last mile power connection will be upscaled to reach all Kenyans.
"Those living near transformers will be connected to power without paying a coin," Mr Ruto said.
The DP, who is on a five-day tour of Coast region to push for more registration of locals as voters, said the government's efforts to supply power to all schools is progressing well.
In Kwale, he said 41,000 households were now connected to electricity, up from 16,000 in 2013.
He added that the key Samburu-Kinango-Kwale road that is expected to open up the county's economy will be commissioned next month by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
He also announced that the construction and tarmacking of Lunga Lunga -Vanga road, and opening of Mtongwe Channel next month to ease congestion at the Likoni Ferry Crossing.
Additionally, he said two new ferries have been purchased at Sh6 billion.
He commended Governor Salim Mvurya over the appropriation of Sh28 billion allocated by the national government since the start of devolution.
He mentioned the Jubilee administration's milestones such as the building of the standard railway gauge and roads construction, among others, urging the locals to re-elect the President Uhuru-led administration.
Mr Ruto criticised the Opposition for their lack of agenda to drive the nation forward.
"Our competitors only want to remove Jubilee government from power but have nothing to offer. They are only good in planning for protests," he said.
Urging all eligible residents to enlist as voters, the DP said about 100,000 people are yet to be registered in Kwale.
He later, together with other politicians, addressed a rally at Diani grounds.
He was accompanied by National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale, Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung'aro, Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko as well as the county's deputy governor Fatma Achani.
He will also hold a rally in Mombasa and in Taita Taveta and Tana River tomorrow and Tuesday respectively.
