The Jubilee Party's Woman Representative candidate for Nyeri, Rahab Mukami, has challenged fellow politicians to uplift the living standards of the youth by investing in income-generating projects.

Mukami, who pledged to supply every home with piped water if elected, urged politicians in Nyeri to stop buying alcohol for the youth in order to disrupt rivals’ meetings.

Speaking while on a campaign tour in Nyeri on Wednesday where she addressed more than 300 female supporters and campaigners at Mugwathi Garden Motel in Nyeri, Mukami condemned the habit of using young people to disrupt their rivals' meetings by some politicians.

BIG RELIEF

She, however, praised the Jubilee Party manifesto and drummed support for President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election.

“We have been holding harambees regularly in order to educate our children in high schools.

The provision of free secondary education from next year will be a big relief to parents,” she said in reference to Jubilee Party's pledge to offer free secondary school education if re-elected.

On her part, Mukami has promised to ensure that every elderly people in the county is catered for through the National Health Insurance Fund scheme.

BASIC NEEDS

“We will ensure residents have basic needs like water and better healthcare. I will work with other leaders to uplift the living standards of the residents,” said Mukami, who is seeking to unseat the incumbent Priscilla Nyokabi.

She also criticised her rivals whom she accused of riding on "petty personal issues" and spreading lies to dim her chances of being elected.

She dismissed as unfortunate and propaganda by some opponents that her matrimonial home was in Kiambu and should not qualify to contest for a seat in Nyeri.

SERVE THE PEOPLE

“I am married in Mukurwe-ini and my aim is to serve the people of Nyeri. My opponents are dwelling on petty issues that will not improve lives of the residents. Let us concentrate on issue-based politics,” she said.

Mukami is facing opposition from, among others, Ms Nyokabi, who is defending the seat as an independent candidate after losing in the Jubilee Party nominations in April.

Others are Cecilia Ndung’u of the Party of National Unity, Joyce Gachimu of the Diligence Development Alliance, Jane Mwathe of Narc-Kenya and Alice Wangari of the Maendeleo Chap Chap Party.
