South Sudan peace talks key: EA leaders

Kenya and Rwanda will continue to support ongoing efforts to end the conflict in South Sudan, the countries' leaders have said.

Presidents Uhuru Kenyatta and Paul Kagame reiterated the importance of the peace talks spearheaded by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), the African Union, the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) and the international community.

They expressed optimism that an amicable solution to the crisis in Africa’s youngest nation would be found soon, adding that South Sudan will feature prominently at the AU summit later this month.

BENEFIT CITIZENS

The leaders were speaking during a meeting at State House in Nairobi on Tuesday.

The progress achieved in the East African integration process also featured in the talks with citizens of the member states urged to take advantage of the accruing benefits.

The Presidents agreed to enhance the existing cordial relations between Kenya and Rwanda and to work closely to enhance cooperation.

President Kagame has been in the country for the Governors’ Summit in Naivasha that ended on Tuesday.
