A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier attached to the Kabete Barracks and four other people were on Monday arraigned before Resident Magistrate Elector Riani.

They risk being charged with terrorism-related charges after investigations are completed.

The five were arrested this past weekend by the Anti-Terror Police officers after they were found with explosives.

The suspects are Officer Francis Otieno Oluoch, Simon Muturi Gichuki, Nathaniel Kiprono Tarus, Johnson Nyarangi Omaiyo and Robert Makini Osano.

The five were arrested on Saturday in a house in Lang’ata, Nairobi.

The prosecution alleged that they were at the time of arrest in the process of negotiating to sell devices suspected to be improvised explosives.

The devices were forwarded to the bomb disposal unit for analysis and found to contain material that produces radiation that can be used to make a bomb.

The court directed that four of the suspects be remanded for five days pending completion of investigations.

One of the suspects has been released on a Sh50,000 cash bail on condition that he reports to a police station every day until investigations are completed.

The case will be mentioned on August 29.
