A National Assembly team on Tuesday asked Inspector-General of Police Joseph Boinnet to take collective responsibility for the actions of the officers believed to have killed a lawyer, his client and a taxi driver.

The committee on administration and national security will summon the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government, Joseph ole Nkaissery, to demand a comprehensive account of the circumstances in which lawyer Willie Mwangi, his client Josephat Mwenda and taxi driver Joseph Muiruri were killed.

Addressing the press at Parliament, members of the team that is chaired by Tiaty MP Asman Kamama said Mr Nkaissery will be required to deliver the report within two weeks.

Mr Kamama said the rising number of killings of innocent people under police custody is cause for concern.

“Reports we have received show that 71 people have been killed by police this year,” he said.

“Nobody is safe any more. As such, we want investigations conducted as a matter of urgency,” he said.

He was in the company of nine other MPs.

“As a committee, we want to know these killers and ensure they are brought to book, otherwise these killings will go on,” said Mr Kamama.

The committee demanded all senior officers at the Mavoko Administration Police post be held responsible for the killing of Mr Kimani and the other two individuals, following revelations that they were remanded there before “disappearing under the watch of police”.
