AG Muigai leads team to China to study how country fights corruption

A multi-agency group led by Attorney-General (AG) Githu Muigai is in China for four days to study how the country fights corruption.

China, known to be ruthless against corrupt leaders, early this year embarked on a campaign that saw more than 100 government officials and business persons arrested.

In a statement issued from Beijing, the AG’s office said the delegation would also study the Chinese legal system, its fight against drugs and cyber terrorism.

“The team is also expected to get a deeper understanding into Chinese legal policies, laws on taxation and commercial arbitration resulting from increased international trade and investment,” the statement said.

The delegation includes officers from the State Law Office, Office of the President, Director of Public Prosecutions, Directorate of Criminal Investigations and the Kenya Revenue Authority. Also in the AG’s entourage are some officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prisons Department, Nairobi International Centre for Arbitration as well as the Cyber Crime Authority.

Kenya and China are also working on an agreement for the extradition of convicts.
