Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri accused of assaulting policewoman

Bahati Member of National Assembly Kimani Ngunjiri was on Thursday accused of assaulting a traffic policewoman in Nakuru.

The legislator spent time at Nakuru Central Police Station in the evening with similar complaints, trying to convince police officers that he had been been assaulted by the same officer.

The MP was allowed to go home and on Friday morning reported at the CID offices to record a statement.

Nakuru Divisional Police Commander Benard Kioko said since both parties had lodged complaints, police were investigating the matter as they were unable to establish who was telling the truth.

The TNA party lawmaker reported a case of assault, saying the policewoman ought to have been arrested since she had physically assaulted him and directed obscenities at him. The traffic policewoman lodged similar complaints, saying the MP was arrogant.

The traffic policewoman arrived and demanded the motor vehicle be removed from the spot since it was blocking traffic, threatening to have it towed away.

“Mheshimiwa came out of the shop and demanded to know what was happening and a bitter exchange of words ensued with each party boasting of who they are. It quickly degenerated into a physical free for all and traffic policemen manning various roads came to the officer’s rescue,” said an eyewitness.

The motor vehicle was towed to Nakuru Police Station as investigations was launched in to the matter.
