Judiciary employees who have been working directly under former Chief Registrar Gladys Shollei were denied access to their office Tuesday morning after they found the locks changed.

The staff, who number about 20, sat outside the offices with their laptops and reading newspapers as they were unable to work.

They said they had received no communication regarding the issue and were uncertain of their fate in the Judiciary.

Director for Public Affairs and Communication at the Judiciary Mr Naim Bilal said the move to lock out the employees was a temporary measure to allow the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate claims of fraud at the office.

He said the cautionary measure was meant to ensure the employees do not interfere with the ongoing investigations by the EACC.

Mrs Shollei was sacked on Friday by her employer, the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), over allegations that she had misused Sh2.207 billion.

JSC said it had invited the EACC to commence investigations into the matter.

The former Chief Registrar, however, said she was never given an opportunity to defend herself. She claimed that no money was lost during her tenure and accused the JSC of being biased against her.
