Appeals court reinstates Issa Timamy as Lamu Governor

Fahim Twaha (L) and Issa Timamy who was declared winner of Lamu governor in the August 9 General Elections.

An appeal court has reinstated Issa Timamy as Governor of Lamu County.

Mr Timamy's election was earlier annulled by the High Court and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) had already scheduled a by-election for December 2.

His election had been declared null and void after the Constitution and electoral laws were breached in the March 4 poll.

Lady Justice Florence Muchemi then ordered for fresh elections and slapped Mr Timamy's UDF Party with a Sh4 million bill to cater for the legal fees incurred by the petitioner Mr Fahim Twaha of Kanu who ran for the March elections unsuccessfully.
