IEBC sends report to dissolve Makueni County government to State House

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Monday evening forwarded a report on a petition to dissolve Makueni County government to President Uhuru Kenyatta after verifying signatures.

The electoral body received the original 249 booklets containing 50,826 signatures of petitioners who supported the petition for the dissolution of the Makueni County Government.

In a statement, the electoral body said its task ‘was to verify whether signatories in support of the Petition were registered voters in the County of Makueni and also establish whether they meet the threshold as stipulated in the County Government Act section 123 (2)’.

“The Commission did verify the signatures within three (3) days and forwarded a report to the office of the president at close of business on December 15, 2014 for further action,” said the commission’s Communications Manager Tabitha Mutemi.
