DP Ruto challenges leaders in war on cancer

Deputy President William Ruto on Tuesday evening challenged African leaders to step up their efforts in fighting cancer.

Mr Ruto pledged his support in fighting cancer in Kenya, while urging policy makers to assist leaders in reducing the spread of cancer in Africa.

“It is now upon us as leaders to act in our respective roles and save future generation from the social, health and economic effects of cancer,” the deputy president said.

He noted that non-communicable diseases has brought a new challenge on developing countries by affecting its workforce and overall economic growth.

“Cancer reduces the productivity of African countries causing poverty,” said Mr Ruto.

GOODWILL AMBASSADOR

He promised to support President Uhuru Kenyatta in performing his role as Africa's goodwill ambassador for women and children's health by stepping in the required duties.

He urged delegates to implement the solutions presented by lawmakers, researchers, survivors and leaders in addressing breast, cervical and prostrate cancer in their countries.

Meanwhile he also urged them to step efforts in addressing alcoholism, cigarette smoking and unhealthy lifestyle practices in their countries.

Over 4,000 delegates attended the three-day conference themed  investing to save lives: the role of public and private sector partnerships.
