Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko has said some Jubilee leaders want him to step down from the Nairobi governor’s race in favour of Mr Peter Kenneth.

Mr Sonko, who campaigned in Nairobi’s Eastlands area on Monday, said he has been a loyal supporter of President Uhuru Kenyatta and the Jubilee Party, but since he declared his interest in the governor’s seat, some party members have been sidelining him in favour of his opponent.

PROMISED BETTER SERVICES
“I have been a staunch party member and a defender of President Uhuru Kenyatta especially when he had a case at the International Criminal Court, but the moment I declared interest in the governor’s post, some people felt I should not be supported,” Mr Sonko told his supporters.

He hit out at current Nairobi Jubilee MPs for failing to support him and for pushing for Mr Kenneth’s nomination. “Eleven MPs in Nairobi have stopped supporting me,” said Mr Sonko.

The Sonko team is campaigning for the nomination of Johnson Sakaja for the Senate post and Karen Nyamu for the woman rep seat.

Mr Sonko promised residents better services and vowed to continue supporting President Kenyatta’s re-election bid.
