Cord co-principal and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Friday met with Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero to discuss strategies of popularising the coalition ahead of the 2017 General Election.

The two leaders, who met at Mr Musyoka’s Karen residence in Nairobi, are said to have also discussed ways and means of ensuring that Cord clinches majority seats in Nairobi.

Dr Kidero was accompanied by deputy governor Jonathan Mueke.

“They want to ensure Cord sweeps Nairobi from the governor to parliamentary and civic seats,” said an aide to one of the leaders who attended the meeting.

Mr Musyoka and Dr Kidero also discussed ways of ensuring that the coalition conducts free and fair nominations for all elective seats in Nairobi to avert any fallouts.

“They also talked about ways of conducting effective campaigns across the capital city as a coalition rather than as individual parties. They are leaving nothing to chance,” the source added.

On Monday, Mr Musyoka suggested that the coalition registers itself as a political party and fields a joint presidential candidate in the 2017 polls, a suggestion that was welcomed by both Cord co-principals Raila Odinga and Moses Wetang’ula.

Speaking to Nation on Friday, Ford Kenya deputy leader Boni Khalwale said the party’s position was that the coalition fields a single candidate for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat to avoid dividing votes.
