Steer clear of same-sex marriage, Aden Duale urges American president

House Majority Leader Aden Duale has urged the American President to steer clear of the issue of same-sex marriage when he visits Kenya next month.

At a fund-raising meeting during Ramadhan on behalf of Kikambala madrassa teachers, Mr Duale criticised the US Supreme Court for allowing same-sex marriages, which he said were against Islamic and African values.

“We need to practise values that are worthy to avoid the destruction of our society at the behest of negative foreign influences,” he said.

He spoke on the same day the US Supreme Court delivered a ruling that opened the door to same-sex marriages in all of the nation’s states.

Kilifi County Governor Amerson Kingi told Kenyans not to be divided by criminals into religious blocks, especially at the coast.

He said the ploy to attack churches and frighten Christians would not result in inter-religious animosity, adding that Muslims were known to be peaceful.

“Let us maintain peace and make these prophets of doom fail in their attempt to create hate among us,” he said.

He advised the youth to eschew militia groups that pretend to offer them solutions to employment but at the risk of their lives.

“The youth must realise that devolution has come to offer a solution to unemployment. They should take advantage of these opportunities,” he said.

Msambweni MP Suleiman Dor called for unity and asked Kenyans to ignore politicians who were not for development.

Kipipiri MP Samuel Gichigi said the recent killing of terrorists in Lamu during an attack on a military camp was a clear indication that Kenya was close to winning the war on terror.
