Mandera county boss Ali Roba has denied reports that all governors have rejected President Uhuru Kenyatta’s call to drop their push for a referendum.

Mr Roba said the referendum issue did not feature at all during Council of Governors meeting at a Nairobi hotel on Friday as reported in the media.

“Although governors who support the referendum have a right to make their statement as they wish, they should stick to the truth. They should also give information of what is agreed upon at the council as the referendum issue was not on agenda nor featured on Friday,” Mr Roba said.

Speaking to the Sunday Nation by phone, Mr Roba said: “No agreement has been reached collectively by the council of governors to support the referendum.”

He said during the Friday meeting, progress reports of various sectors were discussed and presentations given by various stakeholders.

Mr Roba supported the referendum in the initial stages before changing tune after Jubilee government gave its position.
