The Anglican Church of Kenya has criticised attempts by some African countries to withdraw from the ICC.

The head of the church, Archbishop Eliud Wabukala, on Sunday said ICC would help the continent achieve democracy in the future.

Speaking at Homa Bay Primary School during celebration of ACK Southern Nyanza Diocese, Mr Wabukala cautioned Kenya against leading other African nations in walking out of the court.

SHOULD BE REFORMED

“If there are challenges, we  cannot advocate for the removal of our countries from the Rome Statute,” he said.

He said the court should be reformed to address the weaknesses instead of abandoning it.

Bishop James Ochiel of Southern Nyanza Diocese prayed for peace and stability during and after the trial of President Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.

“We hope that the ICC outcome will be that of justice and fairness to the accused and Kenyans who suffered after 2007 polls.”

He called on national and county government leaders to remain faithful to the Constitution as they carry out their respective mandates.
