What you need to know:

  • Mr Ruto said the formation of the Jubilee government was, in the first place, aimed at sealing off cracks that may have led to the post-election violence.
  • Each family of IDPs at Kamwingi-Ngwataniro, Block Ten, Sakasaka and Yamumbi camps was given Sh210,000 to buy plots.
  • Mr Ruto said the biggest intention in forming the Jubilee Coalition was to unite Kenya and ensure incidents such as clashes are eradicated and citizens live harmoniously.

Deputy President William Ruto has urged resettled internally displaced persons (IDPs) to be free to set up homes in any part of the country, regardless of their ethnic or political orientation.

“Every Kenyan should feel free to set up a home anywhere in the country. Issues of division based on tribe and political alignment should not deter us from enjoying this freedom,” Mr Ruto said.

The DP said the Jubilee government was determined to uphold peace, strengthen unity and keep the country free from problems like the 2007-2008 post-poll skirmishes.

Mr Ruto said the formation of the Jubilee government was, in the first place, aimed at sealing off cracks that may have led to the post-election violence.

He was speaking on Sunday in an exercise where 163 households in camps in Uasin Gishu were given funds to build new homes.

“The government is providing homes for those people who fled their homes in 2007, we are focused to see that such problems are not witnessed in our country again,” said Ruto.

EACH GOT SH210,000

Each family of IDPs at Kamwingi-Ngwataniro, Block Ten, Sakasaka and Yamumbi camps was given Sh210,000 to buy plots.

Mr Ruto said the biggest intention in forming the Jubilee coalition was to unite Kenya and ensure incidents such as clashes are eradicated and citizens live harmoniously.

“It was God who directed us to form this government that ensured Kenyans are united and love upheld.”

“We are aware that the growth of peace and (the) economy depends on each of our Kenyan people; that is why I came back on the second phase of resettlement to give these people a life starter, that they get new homes and help (in) developing the nation,” he added.
