A Catholic bishop has said the dissolution of political parties to join the yet to be launched Jubilee Party will curtail Kenyans’ freedom to associate with political parties of their choice ahead of the 2017 elections.

Bishop Cornelius Korir of the Eldoret Diocese on Wednesday said it was undemocratic for the ruling coalition to push for dissolution of political parties.

He said that Kenyans fought for multi-party democracy, which had enabled them to form and associate with any party in the country.

“Kenyans (should) be allowed to exercise their democratic space by associating and joining political parties of their choice instead of being confined in one basket,” he said at a forum in Eldoret.

The Jubilee Party would be formally launched during a national convention this month in Nairobi.

He urged Kenyans to elect people of integrity in the 2017 elections.
