The High Court has declined to grant orders stopping Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi's suspension from the National Assembly.

Cord and over 1,000 Ugunja from Ugunja had sued to challenge his suspension from attending parliamentary sessions for the rest of the current session by Speaker Justin Muturi.

Justice Joseph Onguto declined to issue the temporary orders, saying the matter was not urgent and set a hearing for July 6.

Cord and the residents claim the decision to suspend the MP denies Ugunja constituents representation.

They want the court to declare Standing Order no. 111 of the National Assembly as well Mr Wandayi's suspension unlawful.

Mr Wandayi was suspended on March 31 during a joint sitting of Parliament when President Uhuru Kenyatta gave the State of the Nation address.
