Cartels to blame for city water shortage, says Kenneth

Cartels are to blame for the perennial water shortage in the capital, Nairobi governorship candidate Peter Kenneth has said.

Mr Kenneth has claimed that the cartels are working in cahoots with the Nairobi Water Company to deny residents the vital commodity, even as he promised to improve service delivery and return the city to its former glory if elected on August 8.

Without substantiating his allegations, Mr Kenneth claimed that they are well connected individuals working for some of his competitors.

“Even though the climatic conditions have contributed to the water problem, some of my competitors are colluding with the water company to cause an artificial shortage and allow the businessmen and philanthropists to flourish,” he said while he campaigned in Mukuru Kwa Njenga slums.

HAVE FAILED

A loser in the Jubilee Party primaries, Mr Kenneth promised to dismantle those cartels and ensure city residents get value for the billions they remit to the county government in taxes.

He accused Governor Evans Kidero and Senator Mike Sonko for failing in their respective mandates.

“The governor has the mandate to ensure that public funds that range in billions are utilized well. But he has failed. Equally, the Senator, who is supposed to provide the requisite oversight on the management of public funds, doesn’t seem to understand his role!” he said.

He said that under his leadership, there would be no more garbage problems.

“I plan to have youths absorbed in formal and informal sectors, provide efficient garbage management system, which has been lacking for the four years Kidero has been at the helm,” he said.
