  • MPs and senators claim Cord leaders are derailing the government’s development agenda.
  • Knut has been demanding the dismissal of Prof Kaimenyi.

Lawmakers from central Kenya have accused the opposition of pushing for the removal of key leaders in the Cabinet to weaken the government.

The MPs and senators said Cord leaders were derailing President Uhuru Kenyatta’s development agenda by frustrating officials who were critical in delivering flagship projects.

Senator Kiraitu Murungi (Meru, APK), who is the patron of the Central Kenya Parliamentary Caucus said allegations levelled against Education CS Jacob Kaimenyi and his Devolution counterpart Anne Waiguru were baseless.

“It has nothing to do with fighting corruption but is a deliberate strategy by Cord to remove vital pillars around President Kenyatta to bring down his government,” Mr Murungi said.

PERSONAL AGENDA

The lawmakers who addressed the press at Parliamentary yesterday said they would not sit and watch as the opposition “engaged in a witch hunt”.

“Prof Kaimenyi is committed to the Jubilee agenda on education reforms. He is focused and we will not allow people driven by personal agenda to derail the government form delivering on its mandate,” Mr Murungi added.

They appealed to MPs to vote against an impeachment motion against Prof Kaimenyi sponsored by Matayos MP Godfrey Odanga.

The CS is accused of arrogance, mishandling the procurement of laptops and failure to consult stakeholders when making decisions.

Kenya National Union of Teachers Secretary-General Wilson Sossion has also been demanding the dismissal of Prof Kaimenyi.

He accuses the CS of failing to consult other stakeholders, particularly on basic education regulations.
