Coast politicians get top State jobs

  • Former Mombasa Mayor Taib Ali Taib, now practising law in Nairobi, was appointed a member of the Kenya Investment Authority board.
  • Former Garsen MP Molu Shambaro, who has been missing from the political scene, was appointed a member of the Bomas of Kenya board.
  • Kenya National Muslim Advisory Council Chairman Sheikh Juma Ngao’s term as a member of the National Authority for the Campaign Against Drug and Alcohol Abuse board was renewed.

Former law makers from the coast region are among the more than 30 people who have been appointed to parastatals. 

Former Cabinet minister Marsden Madoka, who was also Wundanyi MP, has been named to replace outgoing Kenya Ports Authority chairman Danson Mungatana, who served for only eight months.

Mr Madoka held a similar position at the Kenya Revenue Authority, which he automatically relinquishes.

Former Mombasa Mayor Taib Ali Taib, now practising law in Nairobi, was appointed a member of the Kenya Investment Authority board.

He is also a member of the tribunal hearing a petition seeking the dissolution the Makueni County government.

Former Garsen MP Molu Shambaro, who has been missing from the political scene, was appointed a member of the Bomas of Kenya board.

Kenya National Muslim Advisory Council Chairman Sheikh Juma Ngao’s term as a member of the National Authority for the Campaign Against Drug and Alcohol Abuse board was renewed.

Other politicians who were given jobs include former Kwale County Council Chairman Mshenga Ruga, former Kilifi County Council Chairperson former Matuga MP Suleiman Kamole and former Tononoka ward councillor (Mvita constituency) Gharib Suleiman Gharib.

The appointments included people from all the six coastal counties of Kwale, Mombasa, Taita-Taveta, Kilifi, Lamu and Tana River. They are expected to boost the Jubilee government’s popularity in the region.

State House said the appointments aimed at improving services.
