Cord principal Kalonzo Musyoka answerd a question flanked by Moses Wetangula, and Anyang Nyong'o during a press briefing at the Serena Hotel in Nairobi on April 24, 2014. Before we throw more stones at the Establishment man turned opposition leader, we must put hypocrisy aside and confess that he spoke the truth. PHOTO/FILE

  • ODM secretary-general Anyang’ Nyong’o said Cord was consulting key players in preparation for the talks, which it wants held before July 7.

Cord has invited the clergy, trade unions, civil society and the public to join its push for national dialogue on problems facing the country.

The call came as ODM, the main partner in the coalition, accused Jubilee of reducing the clamour for dialogue to political rivalry, saying, the intention was “to save this nation from collapse.”

ODM secretary-general Anyang’ Nyong’o said Cord was consulting key players in preparation for the talks, which it wants held before July 7.

“We in Cord are ready and our preparatory team has embarked on consultations with stakeholders. We invite religious leaders, trade unions, civil society organisations and the popular masses to join us and save this nation from collapse,” he said in a statement.

Prof Nyong’o said that contrary to President Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto’s statements that sought to portray the push for dialogue as Jubilee-Cord rivalry, the talks were meant to unite Kenyans.

“We never intended it to be between Cord and Jubilee. Nor did we mean it to be confined to political parties. It is a dialogue among Kenyans who are confronted by crises of unprecedented proportions,” he said.
